Icon Orthodontics employs the Smart Clip™ Self-Ligating Bracket System as designed by 3M Unitek. Normally, each bracket on your teeth is wrapped in an elastic or ligature to hold the wire in place over your teeth. Each archwire change appointment requires a change in elastics to change the wire. Elastics may also change colour as they age and look less attractive.

The Smart Clip™ system uses a bracket that clips the wire in place WITHOUT the use of an elastic. This reduces the friction between the bracket and wire which allows for more efficient tooth movement, increased patient comfort, easier archwire changes and better bracket hygiene.

If a patient requests the use of elastics for aesthetic reasons (ie. they want to have colours on their braces) the Smart Clip™ system accommodates the use of elastics as well.
